About Us

The Mellors family have farmed at The Nurseries since 1930, originally rearing cattle and pigs and managing orchards.

Over the years the farm has changed a lot, but the ethos of producing quality beef has not.

The Farm Shop opened in 1978, catering for a small local clientele, but that clientele has substantially increased along with the demand for quality produce.

Peter and his family rose to that demand by producing home made pies, sausage and the very famous Mellors Pork Pie which has a family history going back before the 1930s.

Seeing Peter in the papers over the last 20 years has not been unusual. For awards from ‘Best Pork Pie’ to ‘Champion of Champion Sausage Makers’, the list just goes on and on.

Despite the increase in demand for produce, continuing as a family run business is important to Peter. His son Ben and granddaughter Rosie both work within the business.

All of our beef is reared on our farm and hand picked by Peter himself with our 50 years experience in cattle there's one thing he knows about... BEEF.

The beef is slaughtered at Woods Abattoir which is located approximately 10 miles away, to minimise travel and distress and to ensure tenderness of meats.

The beef is then hung for well over two weeks and a lot of the time, three weeks to ensure mature taste and tenderness.

Our lamb is locally sourced and hand picked to suit our very high grade.

Our Nottinghamshire pork is also of very high quality, great tasting with of course the old fashioned crackling.
